Dyvig Badehotel is listed in Relais & Châteaux
The South Jutland gem, Dyvig Badehotel, has been included in the exclusive Relais & Châteaux collection, which represents some of the world’s most unique hotels and restaurants.
One of Denmark’s finest beach hotels has come in distinguished company. Dyvig Badehotel, located on Als, has been incorporated into the exclusive hotel and restaurant association Relais & Châteaux, whose guide is is internationally in the same league as the Michélin guide. Dyvig Badehotel is only the sixth establishment in Denmark to have slipped through the cracks as a member of the international hotel and restaurant organization. This is of great importance to the seaside hotel, which regards the admission as a huge gift and a seal of quality that will give the hotel an ace in hand in relation to international guests, says John Bech Amstrup, who leases Dyvig Badehotel.
“We are incredibly proud that Dyvig Badehotel has become part of Relais & Châteaux, and we see it as an exclusive hallmark of our unique hotel. We have for long had our eyes on Relais & Châteaux, as the guide matches and supports our product and brand in the best way. We focus the high quality, the local culture and the warm hospitality, and it taps directly into Relais & Châteaux’s DNA”, says John Bech Amstrup, who has been a tenant, director and gastronomy manager at Dyvig Badehotel since 2010.
Relais & Châteaux is an association of exclusive independent hotels and restaurants, numbering 580 extravagant hotels, castles and mansions, gourmet restaurants, wineries, majestic villas and unique mountain huts spread across 65 countries on five continents. In Denmark, Dragsholm Castle, Falsled Kro, Restaurant Kong Hans, Restaurant Frederikshøj and Restaurant Lieffroy and now also Dyvig Badehotel count.
“With Relais & Châteaux, Dyvig Badehotel gets a window of opportunity to reach out to an incredibly attractive segment of quality-conscious gastro- and cultural tourists who seek unique experiences that are rooted in local cultural history and conveyed through gastronomy and excellent hospitality. Relais & Châteaux meets some very strict admission criteria, and we are both proud and humbled to be part of the Relais & Châteaux family”, says John Bech Amstrup, who was welcomed in a personal call from the president of Relais & Châteaux, the Frenchman Philippe Gombert.
Dyvig Badehotel is located nearby Nordborg on the edge of the South Funen archipelago with lush nature in the backyard, and the small boutique hotel with only 17 rooms and 4 suites is closely connected with nature’s tranquility by the water. The seaside hotel is a charming refuge to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and perhaps time itself. The warm atmosphere of the house is closely connected with personal service and gastronomic manifestations. The four-star hotel houses two restaurants – Amstrup & Vigen and Dyvig Brasserie. The former is a gourmet restaurant with a high culinary level, where the emphasis is on local ingredients, and the dishes have a Danish-French touch. Dyvig Brasserie is synonymous with informal atmosphere and classic dishes such as shooting stars and wienerschnitzel as well as more advanced dishes on the menu. Dyvig Badehotel has won several awards for their gastronomy, and most recently the brasserie Den Danske Spiseguides’ awards Bistro / Brasserie of the Year 2019 and Avec and Wine Card of the Year 2019 and 2017 brought home to Nordals.
The businessman Hans Michael Jebsen is behind the pearl of southern Jutland. In 2002, he bought Dyvig Kro to build a new bathing hotel in the old style on the site in 2008-2010. Hans Michael Jebsen is also behind Hotel Frederiksminde, Schackenborg Slotskro, Rønned Kro, Hotel Baltic and Restaurant Knapp.
Simultaneously with Dyvig Badehotel’s inclusion in the Relais & Châteaux guide, eight other matchless places checked into the exclusive company. These were English Thornbury Castle in Gloucestershire, Canadian Stonehaven Le Manoir in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and Irish Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara. In addition, France was further represented with Restaurant Saisons in Lyon and Brindos, Lac & Château in Anglet, while three Swiss dream places were also included in the guide. They were Aïda Hotel & Spa in Crans-Montana, Maison Décotterd in Montreux and Alex Lake Zurich in Zurich.
